Becoming part of the community

An organization can participate in this initiative by sending a letter of intent with a statement of endorsement of the Coherence initiative and, if applicable, clearance from their parent organization. Partners should be willing to commit themselves to contribute staff time to support the activities of the Coherence initiative. As partner organizations in this network, each partner will:

• make joint efforts to cooperate in the development of multilingual knowledge organization systems and semantic standards;
• reach a consensus about common semantic standards to the extent possible;
• seek effective approaches for capacity building and for strengthening and improving information and knowledge management capacities at various levels;
• build up channels of exchange for information systems and software tools as well as information standards; and
• promote information and resource sharing.

Feedback mechanisms involving users of information systems will be set up to test the achievements and usefulness of the Coherence initiative.

The management and maintenance of the Coherence Web site will be a continuous activity for which the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will act as a secretariat. The secretariat will maintain the Coherence Web site and organize workshops and projects as appropriate, and according to the availability of funds.
