Information Management Standards for Electronic Publishing in Agriculture, Practical Workshop, 6 November, 2000, Brussels
Introduction
How should international agricultural information services react to the drastic changes in the information landscape, and what developments can be expected in the coming years? An informal meeting was held in Brussels on 6 November 2000 with a number of organisations working in Agricultural information and Web standards. The workshop addressed the need for a minimum core set of information management standards to facilitate access, retrieval, and information exchange within the Agricultural Information community.
The Dublin Core model was introduced by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center, USA) with an example methodology, and Johannes Keizer from FAO introduced the current status of FAO retrieval systems in relation to cross database searching and the present and proposed use of AGROVOC.
During the Workshop, a presentation was given by Stuart Weibel, senior research scientist at the OCLC.
