The meeting complies with the provisions of the Commission's statutes regarding the holding of regular biennial sessions. Its objectives are to report the measures adopted with respect to the agreements of the previous meeting; reflect collectively on the issues that concern the sustainability and contribution of fisheries and aquaculture to food security, the alleviation of rural poverty and the responsible and harmonious management of natural resources, in line with the needs of the member countries of the Commission, FAO regional priorities and the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.

Regional Workshop on the Elimination of Child Labour in Agriculture: "Making Latin America and the Caribbean the first continent free of child labour", organized by FAO on September 29th, 2021, from 09:00 to 10:30 (Santiago de Chile time). The regional workshop aims to give a voice and discuss innovative solutions with regional actors, contributing to the efforts of the international community to address child labour.

The course Agroecology: transition towards sustainable food systems is a partnership effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA), that seeks to contribute and stimulate the exchange and promotion of agroecological principles and approaches in the context of territorial development, sustainability and resilience, governance and empowerment of communities and people.

El Festival Latinoamericano de Juventudes Rurales tiene por objetivo generar un espacio de aprendizaje, interacción, intercambio e inspiración entre la diversidad de jóvenes que residen en los territorios rurales de ALC para compartir sus experiencias. En este tercer intercambio, presentaremos cinco experiencias de jóvenes rurales para abordar las prácticas y mecanismos que estos han utilizado con el propósito de favorecer su acceso a la tierra y a los recursos naturales; analizar los espacios políticos, regulatorios y las normativas actuales; examinar las acciones colectivas posibles para el desarrollo de planes de vida para las juventudes rurales

El X Encuentro acontece ante unas circunstancias sin precedentes a consecuencia de la pandemia generada por el COVID-19, las que amenazan el logro de la Agenda 2030, y en especial, el Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 2 “Hambre Cero”. En efecto, múltiples informes de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) ya daban cuenta del aumento de las cifras del hambre hace varios años, lo que tras la crisis por COVID 19 vino a complejizarse aún más.

Based on national and regional priorities of the countries, the FAO regional initiatives, and the international and dialogues and agreements based on forestry items, the mandate of the LACFC is to advice FAO on the forestry programme to be developed in the Region. This includes the formulation of policies for the sustainable management of forests and wildlife and to analyze, facilitate and coordinate their execution at a regional level, change of information and, in general, through special bodies (technical cooperation networks), advises on suitable practices and actions with regard to technical problems and makes appropriate recommendations in relation to these matters.
