PRESS CONFERENCE: FAO Director General and Minister of Agriculture of Chile will present the accomplishments of the FAO Regional Conference

11:15 AM – “MESOAMERICA WITHOUT HUNGER” AGREEMENT SIGNING
Santiago, Chile, May 8th, 2014– The Minister of Agriculture of Chile, Carlos Furche, and the FAO Director General, José Graziano da Silva, will give a press conference on Friday the 9th at 11:30 am, in the Mesoamerica room at the Hotel Marriot in Santiago, Chile, to present the main achievements, agreements, and conclusions of the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean.
On the occasion, authorities will present important announcements regarding the eradication of hunger in the region.
The 33rd Regional Conference brings together the governments of the region every two years to strengthen their joint efforts to eradicate hunger and to set the regional priorities of FAO for the next biennium.
The current version counted with the notable participation of the President of Chile, the Vice-president of the Social Area of Venezuela, the First Lady of Peru, ministers of 22 countries, and representatives of all the governments of the region, civil society, and the private sector.
MESOAMERICA WITHOUT HUNGER: 11:15 am
At 11:15, the press is also invited to the signing of an important agreement that will create the “Mesoamerica without Hunger” South South cooperation fund, between the government of Mexico and FAO.
The signing of the agreement will count with the participation of the FAO Director General, José Graziano da Silva, the Subsecretary of Rural Development of Mexico, Arturo Osornio, and the Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), Juan Manuel Valle.
