Note for the press

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations states that Mrs. Nadine Heredia Alarcón is working for the organization since November 24th, 2016.

Rome, 1 December 2016. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reiterates that Mrs. Nadine Heredia Alarcón is working for the organization since November 24, 2016, exercising her right to work in accordance with the Staff Regulations of FAO and with the Standards of Conduct of the International Civil Service.

At no point did Ms Heredia fail to inform FAO about her legal situation. Although it is true that Mrs. Heredia is currently facing a fiscal investigation in Peru, it is also true that she has not been convicted of declared guilty or been subject to conviction. Therefore she enjoys the presumption of innocence like any other citizen.

Ms. Heredia has requested, as of today, a leave without pay from FAO to attend to personal matters including the ongoing investigation. If Ms. Heredia is allowed to leave Peru to carry out her duties at FAO, the Organization will allow her to travel to her country privately when it is necessary, to carry out any obligations relating to petitions issued by the Peruvian authorities.
