Alliance Elimination of Rural Poverty

The reduction of rural poverty has stagnated in Latin America in recent years and has even regressed in various countries; today about half of the rural inhabitants of the region are poor, and almost a third are indigent.

This Alliance aims to identify, discuss and disseminate 21st century solutions to the problem of rural poverty, through a renewed set of politically and technically feasible proposals to implement in the region to end rural poverty.

The Alliance was convened by the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, with the support of the Institute of Peruvian Studies. The Alliance is comprised of 25 regional experts from Latin America, coming from many different sectors of society.
