Alliance Facing the Causes of Migration and Building Opportunities in Rural Mesoamerica

Poverty and lack of opportunities; vulnerability to increasingly intense and frequent climate phenomena; violence. These are three of the major causes that are driving immigration today in Mesoamerica.

The central objective of this Alliance will be to formulate and implement a comprehensive program to significantly reduce migratory pressure in the main expulsion territories. It will ensure that migration is an option and not an obligation due to poverty, violence or vulnerability.

It is composed of 32 experts and is coordinated by FAO and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
