Target Countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay

Period: December 2019 to November 2023

Objective: The overall strategic objective is to contribute to addressing AMR through the implementation of the National Action Plans, using a One Health approach  and working with seven South American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

Outcomes and outputs:

Outcome:
National health and agriculture authorities (animal health, plant protection, food and environment) strengthen their technical capacities and intersectoral coordination to jointly manage and mitigate AMR risks through political support and government commitment in the seven beneficiary countries of the project.

Output 1: Latin American governments receive technical assistance for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the National Action Plans (NAP) under One Health approach, in line with the Global Action Plan on AMR (2015).

Output 2: Integrated surveillance and monitoring of AMR trends and consumption of antimicrobials are strengthened by improved data collection, management, and analysis and reporting in the human and animal health sectors, respectively. National and Regional Reference Laboratories and AMR detection methodologies and AST methodologies (for human health, animal health and plant health) are strengthened in compliance with international standards.

Output 3: Private sector commitment and participation in the fight against AMR is increased through public-private partnership initiatives, better capacities for the responsible and prudent use of antimicrobials, and improvements in national AMR regulatory frameworks.

Output 4:  Under the One Health Approach, AMR research and innovation is strengthened and international cooperation in these areas is improved.
