Objective

Promote general development and national and international action and technical capacity building in animal husbandry and health problems; build up regional and national livestock programmes based on collective self-reliance and mutual assistance within the region; promote livestock production as an industry and as part of the farming system on the basis of self-reliance at the farm level; improve rural livestock agriculture and resource development through disease eradication, enhanced services and inputs, organizational efficiency, diversification of farm production and rural cooperation; raise nutrition levels and living standards of small farmers and rural communities through the optimal exploitation of potential resources for livestock development; develop livestock as an integral part of agriculture through programmes relevant to Asia's farming systems; in this regard, focus on small farmers and the harmonious integration of crop, livestock, poultry and fish production so as to maximize agricultural production in smallholdings; in general enhance livestock industry and trade so as to bring direct benefit to rural communities and improve their quality of life.
