Bangladesh recognized for halving hunger before MDG timeline

 

16 June 2013, Rome - Bangladesh is one of the 38 countries formally recognized by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva for reducing hunger by half well ahead of the target year 2015.

 

During a high-level ceremony attended by several heads of state, Bangladesh, along with the other recipient countries, received a diploma for early achievement of this fundamental target — to halve the proportion of hungry people by 2015 — set by Millennium Development Goal 1 (MDG1).  <more>

New FAO Country Programming Framework 2013-2018 for Bangladesh launched today

 

02 October 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Economic Relations Division (ERD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) today organized a validation workshop for the new FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2013-2018, a tool used by FAO and Government to define the priorities of FAO’s assistance to Bangladesh. The new CPF endorsed today is fully aligned to Bangladesh development objectives as well as the overall Strategic Framework of FAO, and has been developed over a number of months.

This five-year programme emphasizes five main areas – 1) enhancing access to food for better food security and nutrition 2) enhancing productivity sustainably including management of natural resources, use of quality inputs and mechanisation 3) improved food systems (including safety)    4) better links between research, extension and farmers, and 5) increased resilience of communities to withstand shocks or natural disasters. <more>

Launched the FAO’s Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2013-2018

 

Mr Mohammad Mejbahuddin, Secretary, Economic Relations Division and Mr Mike Robson, FAO Representative in Bangladesh jointly launched the FAO’s Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2013-2018 on 03 April 2014 at the Conference Room, ERD. 

Ms Sultana Afroz, Joint Secretary ERD welcomed the audience and stated out the process of formulation of CPF in Bangladesh.

Mr Mike Robson, FAO Representative in Bangladesh delivered a brief presentation on the CPF 2014 – 2018, where he mentioned the CPF is a central strategic document for FAO in Bangladesh. <more>
