Objectives and target audience

Dairy Asia platform comprises three technical working groups – ‘dairy genetics’, (ii) ‘dairy economics, policy and institutions’ and (iii) ruminant nutrition. Dairy Asia Genetics Technical working group has recently prepared a working paper which discussed existing genetic resources, production environment, infrastructure developed for genetic improvement in Asian countries, breeding strategies for developing effective and sustained breeding programmes, and how Dairy Asia platform could be used to help countries plan and develop effective genetic improvement programmes. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss and finalize the working paper and to develop a structure and a working agenda for the working group. The meeting participants comprise selected genetics experts from Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Philippines, Viet Nam and China.

Expected outcome

Finalized Dairy Asia Genetics Paper to be published as Dairy Asia Working Paper No. 4 and an agreed work plan and structure for the Dairy Asia Technical Working Group on Dairy Genetics.
