World Food Day 2018

19/10/2018-19/10/2018 Bangkok, Thailand

With FAO and UN sister agencies reporting that hunger is on the rise, this year’s World Food Day theme takes aim at getting everyone on board to reach the 2030 zero hunger target. Countries across the Asia-Pacific Region are holding national events to mark World Food Day. At the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, FAO is marking the occasion with a ceremony on 19th October (in lieu of 16th October). Invitations have been extended to the region’s Diplomatic Corp (based in Bangkok), regional Heads of other UN Agencies, heads of Institutes and Academia and representatives from the Royal Thai Government as Host Country.

Model Farmers from five countries of the Asia-Pacific region will receive FAO awards for their innovation. The event will be opened by FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative, Kundhavi Kadiresan. The Guest of Honour will be Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. The Keynote Speaker will be Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
