World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) 2019
World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) will be celebrated this year from 18-24 November 2019. It is one of the most important global events of the United Nations having included antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as one of the biggest threats to global health. This year, #WorldAntibioticAwarenessWeek is raising awareness on the global effort to address #AMR. In Asia and the Pacific, #2019WAAW is calling to improve awareness and understanding of the risks of AMR, strengthening evidence-based AMR-mitigation strategies through surveillance and research, promoting good practices and prudent use of antimicrobials in food and agriculture. With the theme of #BeAntibioticSmart, we can help in mitigating the spread of AMR. Join the campaign to keep antimicrobials working.
We will be celebrating this year’s WAAW with one of our key regional partners, Chulalongkorn University (CU), in anticipation of its recognition as one of the few FAO AMR Reference Centres globally. The celebration will feature a photo exhibition of FAO-CU initiatives and partnerships on strengthening knowledge and evidence through surveillance and research. We will also be launching a new AMR-related publication. If you want to join the WAAW celebrations at CU, please click here to register. The AMR technical seminars will also be livestreamed via webinar from 20-21 November. Please join this year's WAAW and act now to slow down the spread and lessen the impact of AMR.
