The CBIT Forest gap assessment method relies on the Voluntary Guidelines on National Forest Monitoring developed by FAO to centralize years of experiences on supporting/implementing Forest Monitoring all over the world. The guidelines can be grouped in three sections: Institutionalization focuses on the preparation of the the method and data collection at the institutional level as well as synergies between ministries,  gvt/research and public/private sector when establishing NFM; Measurement and estimation look at the NFM technical detail of the design, implementation and calculations; finally Report and Verification focuses on how the data and results generated are shared, documented and evaluated to understand their impact on decision making.
