Ministers and other high-level officials meet to promote gender equality
Bangkok, Thailand, 24 Jul 2013 -- A high-level consultation on gender, food security and nutrition got underway today, hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), FAO and Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN). Global cereals forecast to increase by 7 percent in 2013
Bangkok, Thailand, 11 Jul 2013 -- At his monthly media briefing today, Hiroyuki Konuma, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific announced that total global cereal production is forecast to increase by about 7 percent in 2013 compared to 2012, helping to replenish global inventories and raise expectations for more stable markets in 2013/14.

Brunei Darussalam and Singapore are new FAO member countries
Bangkok, Thailand, 17 Jun 2013 -- The FAO governing Conference has voted to accept two Asian countries, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore as new FAO member countries, the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific announced today. The Organization also admitted South Sudan, raising FAO members to 197 comprising 194 member countries, one member organization (European Union) and two Associate Members (Faroe Islands and Tokelau). FAO and Thailand sign two technical cooperation projects
