Hiroyuki Konuma, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia-Pacific, accompanied by Beth Crawford, FAO Representative in Sri Lanka, visit the FAO/EU project on Integrated Irrigation and Agricultural Livelihood Development in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu District in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

The project areas have been badly affected by the prolonged civil war which ended recently.
The FAO project staff have worked hard to support the resettlement of villagers who returned to their home villages to resume agricultural acitivites, for which the rehabilitation of irrigation systems, provision of agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizer, agriculture tools, skill training as well as capacity building were essential.-- 9 July 2014
