Youth in sustainable development: bringing innovation to agriculture and forestry

In recognition of the critical role youth can play in sustainable development, the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, initiated the “Youth in Sustainable Development” project in 2017. This was rolled out in Nepal, the Philippines and Viet Nam where young people were encouraged to demonstrate their innovative agriculture and forestry projects in their villages and communities. Their activities show how youth can act as good partners in sustainable development and as agents of change. Mr Yurdi Yasmi, Forest Policy Officer with FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and Ms Maria Paula Sarigumba, Forest Policy and Sustainable Agriculture Specialist in the Asia and the Pacific Office, summarize the characteristics of the project and what it has achieved so far.
