Sustainable Land Management in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated country in the world with rich soil and plant resources. The country also highly vulnerable to climate change. Growing population is putting extreme pressure on natural resources of Bangladesh and exhausting the sustainability. Despite of the constraints, the agricultural production has more than tripled in the last two decades. But this growth has come at a high cost of land degradation. Ecosystem functioning, biodiversity, water resources, and carbon emissions are also influenced. Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practice is crucial to stop and reverse these trends.  SLM is the set of practices aimed at the wise use of soil, water and vegetation resources to meet human needs while ensuring long-term productivity. Farmers and both government and non-government organizations are beginning to practice “SLM” to ensure efficient use of natural resources that eventually will lead towards sustainable development.
