Agribusiness, Marketing and Trade

PICs have limited capacity for food processing and value adding of agriculture and fisheries product. Pacific products are not as competitive on domestic and international markets with their pricing, marketing and branding. There are difficulties in meeting the technical requirements for market access, and a lack of market and post-harvest facilities.

The expected outcomes of FAO assistance in the area of agribusiness, marketing and trade are:

·         enhanced capacity in value adding of agriculture and fisheries products;

·         increased competiveness of agricultural products on domestic and international markets;

·         improved marketing systems and market access for livestock, traditional food crops and high value specialty commodities; and

·         improved market and post-harvest facilities.
