Sub-regional Office for the Pacific Islands

Food Safety, Quality and Nutrition

PICs face difficulties in meeting food quality and safety standards due to the lack of standards, legislation and regulations and a limited capacity for implementation. PICs also face issues related to poor nutrition and dietary practices.

The expected outcomes of FAO assistance in the area of food safety, quality and nutrition are:

·            successfully meeting established food quality, sanitary and phytosanitary and safety standards;

·            strengthened data collection and management systems; and

·            strengthened capacity for policy analysis and formulation.
