07 Feb 2014 -- Viet Nam’s Prime Minister approved the UNJP 051, to support the implementation of the National Target Programme (NTP) on New Rural Development (NRD). The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is the line agency, while the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) takes the lead role from UN side and coordinates the support provided by 6 other UN agencies.
UN agencies jointed their efforts and expertise to support the Government of Vietnam to implement NTP-NRD, looking at improving incomes, livelihoods and living standards of rural people within the context of Inclusive Equitable, and Sustainable Growth .
Its goal is “to provide high quality technical expertise to the National Target Programme (NTP) on NRD to increase the potential of the rural Viet Nam and to coordinate the UN system’s technical assistance in order to integrate the comparative advantage of each agency into the NTP through improvement of policy environment and capacity to plan and implement Tam Nong Resolution”.
The programme consists of three main components including raising knowledge of producers and rural residents; capacity building to develop policies, strategies and public investment and coordination, monitoring and evaluation within, the implementation of the NTP NRD.
The programme will be carried out during 4 years, with a total budget of USD 1.39 million.
