Visit of Mr. Daniele Salvini, FAO Senior Field Programme Officer for Asia and Pacific Region

31 Mar 2014 -- Mr Daniele Salvini, Senior Field Programme Officer of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in  Bangkok, Thailand, will visit the FAO Office in Hanoi from March 31 until 4 April, in order to review the country field programme and provide support as required. Mr Salvini has 29 years of experience in FAO and he has worked in different positions and responsibilities in 25 countries, in Europe, South America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. He is the coordinator of the Field Programme Group in the FAO Regional Office for Asia Pacific and he coordinates the operational support to all the countries in Asia and the Pacific.

FAO in Asia Pacific region, has already established 15 representations under the responsibility of a FAO Representative in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste. In 2013, FAO at country level- has collaborated with the member countries and the resource partners by implementing 358 projects for a total cost of USD138,660,000. FAO has implemented projects covering a wide range of issues: strengthening of food security; improvement of nutrition and food safety; improvement of the management of natural resources: land, water, forests; improvement of livestock production and productivity; climate change; smart agriculture; rice strategies and production; strengthening of the resilience against natural disasters; agriculture statistics and policies; emergency projects in response to natural disasters and transboundary animal diseases.

At  the end of March 2014, there are 69 on-going FAO projects in Viet Nam, out of which 35 projects are only partially involving Vietnam (global, inter-regional and regional projects)  while 34 are national projects, entirely devoted to support Vietnam development strategies and priorities. Their global value is USD26,751,366.
