Training workshop on greenhouse gas inventory at the Bangladesh Forest Department

12/09/2017

A three-day training workshop on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the agriculture, forestry and other land use sector was held from 27-29 August 2017 at the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD). The workshop was organized by the UN-REDD Bangladesh National Programme with the technical support from Mr. Luca Birigazzi, an international expert on GHG inventory. Representatives from the Resource Information and Management System  unit of BFD took part in the discussions and practical exercises. The workshop covered technical and methodological aspects of estimating GHG emissions from sources in agriculture, forestry and other land uses. Participants were trained to reliably calculate GHG emissions that result from human activities including land-use change. The importance of using robust and reliable data to improve the accuracy and quality of the national estimates was highlighted by the participants during the sessions. This workshop was the sixth in the series of similar training workshops on GHG inventory that have been conducted since 2016. It contributed to strengthen the national capacities on GHG accounting which is important to monitor efforts being made to mitigate GHG emissions, as well as for international reporting purposes under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
