06/11/2017

On 31 October and 1 November 2017, a follow-up workshop on forest reference emission level (FREL)/forest reference level (FRL) was held in Bahubal, Habiganj under the UN-REDD Bangladesh National Programme. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is providing technical support to the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) and the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) for developing the FREL/FRL.

The workshop involved 16 representatives from the BFD, MoEF, and FAO. It aimed to finalize the FREL/FRL report to be submitted by the MoEF to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in early 2018.

During the first day of the workshop, the BFD and MoEF officials, with the facilitation of FAO experts, went through the first draft of FREL/FRL report, and made comments and suggestions for improvement. All participants agreed with the proposed FREL/FRL and the methodology applied for constructing it.  On the second day, the BFD and MoEF participants worked in groups with the support of the FAO experts to revise the report. In the end of the workshop, the second draft of the FREL/FRL report was prepared. The participants agreed to organize the national consultation on proposed FREL/FRL in December 2017.
