ABWG activities

The ABWG will seek to understand the current state of aquatic biofuels research and technologies and their relevance to being applied and managed in developing countries, taking into account investment and environmental issues. This may eventually involve facilitating linkages between regional organizations, the private sector and governments as well as promoting north-south and south-south collaborations.

The ABWG will disseminate knowledge on bioenergy production from algae and fish waste and its suitability in poor areas to improve energy access.  Where appropriate, this knowledge would be exchanged through networks to assist in further developing aquatic biofuels.

In 2010 a new review paper about the potential of algae bioenergy systems to co-produce valuable products has been developed. This document provides an overview of practical applications available for co-production from algae and their viability and suitability for developing countries.
Authors are Sjors van Iersel and Alessandro Flammini.
