20th Session of the International Rice Commission.
Every four years, FAO convenes a Session of the International Rice Commission to provide a forum for senior policy makers and senior rice specialists from FAO Member Countries to address issues and constraints, as well as review and orient their national rice research and development programmes. FAO hosts the Secretariat of the Commission. The meeting, whose main theme is "rice for food security", devotes one of its six sessions to "progress in rice genetic improvement for food security", where some papers on rice biotechnology will be presented. Individuals interested in the promotion of sustainable rice production for food security may attend the meeting as observers.
