FAO Director-General - GM food aid
An FAO press release of 30 August 2002 reports that Dr. Jacques Diouf, the Director-General of FAO, addressed a press conference at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, saying that "Countries in Southern Africa whose populations are facing a devastating drought should carefully consider current scientific knowledge before rejecting food aid containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs)".
