The theme of Conference 10 is "Molecular marker assisted selection as a potential tool
for genetic improvement of crops, forest trees, livestock and fish in developing countries"
One month before this conference began, the Fondazione per le Biotecnologie,
the University of Turin and FAO organised an international workshop on 17-18 October 2003 in Turin, Italy,
entitled "Marker assisted selection: A fast track to increase genetic gain in plant and animal breeding?".
The proceedings of the workshop are available on the web.
See the Background Document to the conference, posted 10 November 2003.
During the four-week conference, 627 people subscribed and 85 messages were posted, about 60% coming from people
living in developing countries.
In July 2004, the Summary Document of this conference
was published. This aims to provide a summary of the main arguments and issues discussed during the conference, based
on the participants' messages.
