The Role of Science in determining International Standards in Food and Agriculture

About the event: This year marks the 50th anniversary of CODEX, which has already raised considerable interest in the international community as well as a number of national governments in not only celebrations but also opportunities for advocacy for the importance of food safety and international standards.

This event, being held during the FAO Conference in celebration of the CODEX 50th anniversary, is sponsored by the United States of America.

A light buffet lunch will be provided.

Aims and Topics: The side event forum will (1) advocate for the importance and the achievement of the global effort in international standard setting in food and agriculture, (2) seek broader support for strengthening the linkage between scientific research and the setting and implementing international standards, and (3) raise the visibility of the organizations in the global efforts of food security and safety, particularly through strengthening policy and international standards.
