Wild birds and avian influenza. An introduction to applied field research and disease sampling techniques

The highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 strain has spread from domestic poultry to a large number of species of free-ranging wild birds, including non-migratory birds and migratory birds that can travel thousands of kilometres every year. FAO field project reports on aquaculture. 1966-2004. Version 2 (Double CD-ROM)
Rome, 2007, Trilingual (En/Fr/Es) Version 1 of the FAO Field Project Reports on Aquaculture CD-ROM was published in 2003 and covered the years 1966-1995. The reports were produced as part of the activities of 208 national field projects conducted within 80 countries around the world, 41 regional field projects and 8 interregional FAO Fisheries Department projects. This updated version includes the reports from Version 1 plus additional aquaculture project reports for the years 1966-2004. The reports are divided in two volumes: Volume 1 covers Africa, Near East, Mediterranean and Europe. Volume 2 covers Asia/Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, interregional projects and the FAO/United Nations Development Programme Technical Assistance reports from 1966 to 1975.

Rome, 2008, 48 pp. Biological diversity is the variety of life on Earth, from the simplest micro-organisms to complex ecosystems such as the rainforests of the Amazon. Biodiversity is important for nutrition and health, and can help to combat micronutrient deficiencies and other forms of malnutrition. Nutrition indicators need to be developed to address the three dimensions of biodiversity - ecosystems, the species they contain and the genetic diversity within species. The indicators will measure the food composition and consumption of cultivars, varieties, breeds and subspecies of commonly consumed foods. This first booklet on nutrition indicator for biodiversity is related to food composition. It reports on progress regarding food composition for biodiversity and will help us value and preserve our planet's existing biodiversity within well-managed ecosystems, with their many sources of nutritionally-rich foods.
