The annual Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 18 to 27 September 2007. The Meeting was held in pursuance of recommendations made by previous meetings and accepted by the governing bodies of FAO and WHO that studies should be undertaken jointly by experts to evaluate possible hazards to humans arising from the occurrence of pesticide residues in foods. This report contains information on ADIs, ARfDs, maximum residue levels, and general principles for the evaluation of pesticides. The recommendations of the Joint Meeting, including further research and information, are proposed for use by Member governments of the respective agencies and other interested parties.

The purpose of the workshop, organized in collaboration with tuna agencies and programmes, was to develop quantitative methods to determine the desired magnitude of or desired change to fishing capacity on the basis of the status of stocks. The outcome of the workshop will be relevant for the work of these organizations and their member countries, rendering technical assistance to fisheries managers in undertaking decisions on the management of tuna fishing capacity. This document includes the report and papers presented at the workshop. It also contains a statement prepared by the participants and presented at the Meeting of Tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organizations held in Kobe, Japan, in January 2007.

La diversidad biológica es la variedad de vida que hay en la Tierra, desde los microorganismos más simples hasta los ecosistemas complejos, como la pluvisilva del Amazonas. La biodiversidad es importante para la nutrición y la salud y puede ayudar a combatir las deficiencias de micronutrientes y otras formas de malnutrición. Esto solamente se puede conseguir si se conoce y difunde la composición de los alimentos, de manera que puedan promoverse las variedades y razas con mayor calidad nutricional. La Iniciativa intersectorial sobre la biodiversidad para la alimentación y la nutrición. Por consiguiente, es necesario elaborar indicadores de nutrición para abordar las tres dimensiones de la biodiversidad: los ecosistemas, las especies que contienen y la diversidad genética intraespecifica. Los indicadores medirán la composición y el consumo de cultivares, variedad, razas y subespecies de alimentos consumidos habitualmente, así como de especies vegetales y animales autóctonas infrautilizadas y no cultivadas.
