Aquaculture growth worldwide involves the expansion of cultivated areas, a higher density of aquaculture installations and farmed individuals, and greater use of feed resources produced outside the immediate culture area. These proceedings present the output of a workshop and include contributed papers on definitions, principles, scales and management measures, human dimensions, economic implications and legal implications that are relevant for an ecosystem-based management in aquaculture.

Inland Fisheries - 1. Rehabilitation of inland waters for fisheries
FAO Technical Guidelines for Responsible Fisheries No. 6 Suppl. 1 Many rivers, lakes and other inland waters have been modified and degraded by human activities. Rehabilitation of degraded systems are needed to preserve ecosystem services and fisheries and are of a high priority if the aquatic biodiversity of inland waters is to be conserved. This booklet provides guidelines examines technical solutions for rehabilitation, within the frame of responsible fisheries.

La FAO a dirigé deux ateliers lors de ce Congrès. Le premier avait pour thème principal "défis pour une mécanisation agricole dans l'Afrique Subsaharienne" et le deuxième s'attachait à "l'utilisation de la technologie dans un souci de valorisation et d'amélioration de la qualité". Le présent rapport contient les résultats du Congrès, et encourage les lecteurs, ainsi que les personnes amenées à prendre des décisions, à tenir compte du rôle important des technologies dans le secteur technique pour le développement, et bien entendu pour un monde meilleur.
