Thursday 12 October – Urbanization, rural transformation and implications for food security and nutrition

In addition to guiding the future work of the Committee on this topic, as outlined in the CFS Multiyear Programme of Work for 2018-19, the intention in this agenda item is to have a substantive and interactive discussion on the issues at stake for the future of food security and nutrition in a changing rural-urban environment.

Building on the work carried out last year through the Forum on Urbanization, rural transformation and implications for food security and nutrition and on the report developed this year on Experiences and effective policy approaches in addressing food security and nutrition in the context of changing rural urban dynamics, the Plenary discussion on this agenda item will focus on advancing CFS work around this topic and set the stage for the two intersessional events to be carried out in 2018.  FAO will share some of the policy implications emerging from the latest State of Food and Agriculture Report 2017, launched at CFS on 9 October 2017 and perspectives on the issues will be shared by the panellists.
