Abstract

This event aims to bring together donor, private sector and civil society to learn from practical experience in applying the VGGT to land investments in agriculture and renewable natural resource use.  Presenters will share and reflect on the implications of early findings and emerging lessons from pilot initiatives for responsible land investment, from a DFID challenge fund and other initiatives, including projects in Belize, Ghana, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Zambia plus two multi-country projects in the sugar sector. Thematically, projects focus  on application of new approaches to due diligence, development of related risk and field assessment tools, business models for forest crops (cocoa and oil palm) and natural resource products and services, and community engagement, consultation and partnership arrangements. The session will share emerging lessons and challenges and the session will debate strategies for scaling up and identify priority next steps.
