This is a review carried out by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), based on publicly available information in the Green Climate Fund (GCF) portfolio. It covers the 77 projects approved between the 13th GCF Board meeting in November 2015 and the 19th Board meeting in February 2018.

This manual is designed for a four-day training course on climate-smart agriculture that would take the learner from the basics of climate science to the impacts of climate change and the linkages among climate, agriculture and food security. It contains four modules, each addressing a particular aspect and consisting of several sessions that are held either in plenary, as one group, or in smaller work groups (Table 1). The content and structure of this manual has been developed and tested through fieldwork involving extension agents and agricultural producers in Zambia, Malawi and Viet Nam.

This report draws out the major trends affecting agriculture, in the NENA region and the general implications for small-scale farmers before delving into an integrated analysis at the farming system level. Using temperature and precipitation data from the RICCAR (2017) report, this study has developed Climate Impacted Farming System (CIFS) maps that demonstrate what the projected temperature and precipitation changes will be for the farming systems of the region by the mid-century (2046–2060) in a moderate and worstcase scenario.

In addition to exploring the complex linkages between agricultural trade, climate change and food security, the report outlines diverse policy options for responding to these challenges.  The report stresses that climate change will affect both agricultural productivity and international trade patterns, but that at the same time international trade in food will remain an important tool that countries can use to cope with negative impacts. It also includes an in-depth overview of the evolution of agricultural trade during the period 2000–2016 and the outlook for agricultural commodities moving forward.

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World is an annual flagship report jointly prepared by FAO, IFADUNICEFWFP and WHO to inform on progress towards ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition and to provide in-depth analysis on key challenges for achieving this goal in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report targets a wide audience, including policy-makers, international organizations, academic institutions and the general public.
