This submission was in response to an invitation by the  Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage to provide information on ‘best practices, challenges and lessons learned from existing financial instruments at all levels that address the risk of loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change’. It is based on selected case studies in the agriculture sectors.

This is a submission by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on issues related to agriculture, as requested in the conclusions of SBSTA 40 (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/L.14, Item 8, Paragraphs 3(b) and 4). Parties and admitted observer organizations were invited to provide their views on issues relating to the conclusion that SBSTA would undertake scientific and technical work in “assessment of risk and vulnerability of agricultural systems to different climate change scenarios at regional, national and local levels, including but not limited to pests and disease”.

The submission was presented at the SBSTA 42 workshop on 3rd June 2015.

Submission by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on issues related to agriculture, as requested in the conclusions of SBSTA 40 (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/L.14, Item 8, Paragraphs 3(a) and 4). Parties and admitted observer organizations have been invited to provide their views on issues relating to the conclusion that SBSTA would undertake scientific and technical work in the “development of early warning systems and contingency plans in relation to extreme weather events and its effects such as desertification, drought, floods, landslides, storm surge, soil erosion, and saline water intrusion”.

This submission was related to the SBSTA 42 workshop on June 2nd 2015.

Submission by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on opportunities for actions with high mitigation potential, including those with adaptation and sustainable development co-benefits. In response to the invitation of the ADP “to submit to the secretariat, by 30 March 2014 and regularly thereafter, information on the opportunities for actions referred to in decision 1/CP.19, paragraph 5(a), including their mitigation benefits, costs, co-benefits and barriers to their implementation and strategies to overcome those barriers, including finance, technology and capacity-building support for mitigation action in developing country Parties.”

Good practices and lessons learned related to processes and structures for linking national and local adaptation planning; and addressing the issues of ecosystems, water resources and health in the Agriculture Sector. In response to the call for submissions to be considered at SBSTA 41 (December 2014) based on the mandates contained in the conclusions FCCC/SBSTA/2013/5, paragraph 13 (b) and FCCC/SBSTA/2014/L.13, paragraph 7, FAO is pleased to submit relevant information on good practices and lessons learned related to processes and structures for linking national and local adaptation planning and addressing the issues of ecosystems, water resources and health in the agriculture sector. The submission is based on FAO’s experience in relation to two specific programmes and country examples.
