Distribution and quality of water resources and water bodies, including man made water infrastructures. Keywords: inland water bodies, rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, basins, glaciers, water balance, dams, water supply, irrigation, natural water management, landslides, management of irrigation, floods and droughts occurrence and distribution.

Irrigated area and land not currently available for rainfed agriculture, total (FGGD) 12 June 2007 The FGGD total currently available land map is a global raster datalayer with a resolution of 5 arc-minutes. Pixels classified as urban, closed forest, or irrigated are indicated as land not currently available for rainfed agriculture. All remaining pixels classified as other land represent land currently available for rainfed agriculture. The method is described in FAO and IIASA, 2007, Mapping biophysical factors that influence agricultural production and rural vulnerability, by H. von Velthuizen et al. [more]
Irrigated area and land not currently available for rainfed agriculture, by land cover type (FGGD) 12 June 2007 The FGGD currently available land map by land cover type is a global raster datalayer with a resolution of 5 arc-minutes. Each pixel is classified as urban, closed forest, irrigated or other land, that is considered available for rainfed agriculture. The method is described in FAO and IIASA, 2007, Mapping biophysical factors that influence agricultural production and rural vulnerability, by H. von Velthuizen et al. [more]
Occurrence of irrigated areas (FGGD) 11 June 2007 The FGGD irrigated areas map is a global raster datalayer with a resolution of 5 arc-minutes. Each pixel in the map contains a value representing the percentage of the area equipped for irrigation. The data are a IIASA modification of FAO and University of Kessel (2002), Digital Global Map of Irrigated Areas v. 2.1. Please for the latest version refer to www.fao.org/ag/agl/aglw/aquastat/irrigationmap/index10.stm [more]
African Water Resource Database 30 May 2007 The African Water Resource Database (AWRD) includes an extensive collection of datasets covering the African continent, including: surface waterbodies, watersheds, aquatic species, rivers, political boundaries, population density, soils, satellite imagery and many other physiographic and climatologic data. The AWRD data archive is aimed at facilitating responsible inland aquatic resource management with a specific focus on inland fisheries and aquaculture. For the full list of datasets on GeoNetwork please use the following URL: http://www.fao.org/geonetwork/srv/en/main.search?equal&any=AWRD [more]
Global map of irrigated areas 15 March 2007 Grid with percentage of area equiped for irrigation with a spatial resolution of 5 arc minutes or 0.083333 decimal degrees. This dataset is developed in the framework of the AQUASTAT - programme of the Land and Water Development Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Database of African dams 16 September 2005 This dataset is developed as part of a GIS-based information system on water resources for the African continent. It has been published in the framework of the AQUASTAT - programme of the Land and Water Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as part of FAO Land and Water Digital Media Series #13: "Atlas of Water Resources and Irrigation in Africa". Rivers of Africa 2 January 2005 The dataset has been published in the framework of the AQUASTAT - programme of the Land and Water Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as part of FAO Land and Water Digital Media Series #13: "Atlas of Water Resources and Irrigation in Africa".This digital data layer is a 1 : 5 000 000 shapefile with the rivers of Africa that has been digitized in 1994 for the UNEP/FAO Desertification Assessment and Mapping Project. Hydrological basins of South East Asia (Derived from HydroSHEDS) 2 January 2005 Major hydrological basins and their sub-basins. This dataset divides the Asian continent according to its hydrological characteristics. The dataset consists of the following information:- numerical code and name of the major basin (MAJ_BAS and MAJ_NAME); - area of the major basin in square km (MAJ_AREA); - numerical code and name of the sub-basin (SUB_BAS and SUB_NAME); - area of the sub-basin in square km (SUB_AREA); - numerical code of the sub-basin towards which the sub-basin flows (TO_SUBBAS) (the codes -888 and -999 have been assigned respectively to internal sub-basins and to sub-basins draining into the sea).
