Belize - Disaster Risk Reduction
Project outcome and outputs
Project Outcome:Improved national and local capacities for hurricane related disaster preparedness, mitigation and response in the agricultural sector.
Appropriate DRM technologies and practices, identified and promoted on pilot basis in selected villages affected by hurricanes Dean and Arthur and other areas representing vulnerable farming systems highly exposed to hurricane hazards. With the assistance of the University of Belize, such as diversification of vegetable production patterns for the dry season, home gardening & processing of homemade food and supplementary animal feeding systems, are being tested.
A Plan of Action (PoA) to strengthen national and local capacities for DRM in the agricultural sector established, including mechanisms for linking with national DRM and climate change adaptation frameworks.
National and local capacities for conducting livelihoods based damage and needs assessment enhanced.
