Approach and Components

Project Components

  • Collection, validation, testing and replication of good practices in agriculture.
  • Promote close collaboration between stakeholders to promote synergies and avoid possible duplications
  • Promote and improve linkages between disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and emergency relief operations and their complementary integration into regular agricultural and rural and regional development planning
  • Enhance regional learning exchange on DRM

Project Methodology

Guiding principles for project implementation

  • Building on what already exists;
  • Applying cross-sectoral livelihoods perspective;
  • Participatory;
  • Linking bottom up and top down perspectives;
  • Focus on small holders & poor;
  • Iterative action research & learning

Findings and lessons obtained from the process in pilot villages were discussed at national consolidation workshops, where key local and national actors were invited to discuss findings and operational implications and recommendations to improve disaster risk reduction and preparedness. Two regional technical workshops were held during project midterm and end, in order to exchange lessons learned and good practice examples. The key objective of these workshops was to compare good practice examples of risk reduction and preparedness in agriculture and identify the most successful options for broader replication within and across countries in the region. Key recommendations for enhancing the national/local DRM systems in place were developed and shared at regional level.
