MRV Joint UN-REDD/GEO Workshop
22-24 June Guadalajara, Mexico

The Workshop entitled “Measurement reporting and verification (MRV), the Roadmap for the implementation of MRV’s at country level” under the overall development of the MRV framework by COP, SBSTA and IPCC is jointly organized by UN-REDD and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and will seek to: 

  • Analyse the current framework for MRV and review IPCC/UNFCCC technical requirements for forest monitoring and MRV at country level
  • Present the experiences implementing MRV for REDD+ at country level
  • Identify current challenges, bottlenecks and data issues for countries that are implementing MRV’s for REDD+
  • Present the support offered by UN-REDD and GEO FCT to countries in the context of MRV for REDD+
  • Provide a progress report on GEO-FCT objectives against agreed outcomes
  • Review progress and build on the recommendations from the previous GEO Forest Monitoring meetings (Brazil 2008, Thailand 2009)
  • Produce a report addressing needs and requirements for MRV implementation included those for open, free and systematic availability of remote sensing data and products for MRV
  • Identify best practices and relevant experiences for the implementation of MRV for REDD+
