The CWP, supported by the participating organizations, has served as the premier international and interorganizational forum for agreeing common definitions, classifications and standards for the collection of fishery statistics since 1960. It has developed common procedures for statistics collation which have streamlined processes and reduced the burden on the statistical offices of national fisheries, as well as providing technical advice to participating organizations on fishery-related statistical matters, and facilitating the publication of methodological and reference documents.

  • New release by CWP: Editable Code Lists and Structural Metadata for fisheries statistical dimensions. Simultaneously we are making available the code lists in csv format for Currencies, Countries, Fishing gears, Fishing Product Commodities and Species. Structural Metadata is being made available for all these dimension (except currencies). The CWP Secretariat will continue to expand and improve such dissemination to ensure that all relevant fishery dimensions follow the same treatment.
  • Aerial grids have been generated and are now publicly available in order to strengthen CWP recommendations and further support Countries, Regional Fishery Bodies and, in general, all fishery statistics related institutions in adopting CWP recommended standards and methods. Furthermore, the algorithm generating the grids and allowing for their reproducibility was developed using R language and is available through the CWP handbook.
  • A new release of the FAO global production statistics on capture and aquaculture has just been finalized. The time series expands now to cover 67 years from 1950 to 2016. In addition to the update for 2016, there are significantly improved stats details, retroactively performed on back years for some countries, including global and regional major producing countries. The datasets are openly accessible to all data users online on the FishStatJ page with links to the updated workspace for FishStatJ users, and online query panels.
