The DataLab for FAOSTAT
The Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database is the world’s largest database on food and agriculture. FAOSTAT data are provided for 245 countries, from 1961 to the most recent year available and in the six FAO official languages.
The Data Lab avails itself of its data collection system and modern technologies (including artificial intelligence) to fill the data gaps of the National Statistical Systems, which are all the statistical entities within a specific country that collect, interpret and disseminate official data for a national government.
Furthermore, the Data Lab carries out data quality controls by validating official data FAO uses, and in doing so, it assists national governments in improving the quality of their work.
The products of this work are mostly for internal use, but when new data for countries covered by the Hand-in-Hand initiative is validated against official sources, it is published on the HiH GIS platform.
