FAO Director-General meets Leyla Aliyeva, FAO Goodwill Ambassador for Azerbaijan

Exploring joint activities focusing on the fight against hunger and malnutrition

FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva meeting with Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyeva Foundation

2 September 2015, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today held talks with Leyla Aliyeva, FAO National Goodwill Ambassador and Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to explore joint activities focusing on the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

By collaborating with FAO, Aliyeva is commited to promoting global development and sustainable agriculture initiatives, which are among FAO’s key priorities. She also supports FAO in raising awareness on the sustainable development activities the Organization is undertaking in Azerbaijan.

“It is a great honour for me to contribute to FAO’s efforts and I highly appreciate its work. FAO’s work is very similar to the one we do at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, where we focus on social problems, biodiversity, climate change, education, culture and protection of the environment” Ms Aliyeva said in remarks following her meeting with Graziano da Silva

“I believe it is highly important to educate young people on the importance of preserving our environment”.  

She also welcomed the recent establishment of the first FAO Liaison and Partnership office in Baku, Azerbaijan.

For his part the FAO Director-General thanked Ms Aliyeva for the support she has shown towards FAO’s activities in Azerbaijan and in the region.
