FAO Chief meets Haiti’s Minister for Agriculture

Rebuilding Haiti’s agricultural sector, a priority for the new Government

7 July 2017, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva held talks with Haiti’s Minister for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Carmel André Belliard, who was in Rome to attend the Organization’s 40th Conference (3-8 July 2017).

“Rebuilding the agricultural sector and restoring livelihoods is a key priority for the new Government,” said the Minister in his remarks following the meeting.

FAO and Haiti have a long history of partnership, with Haiti being a founding member of FAO. Emergency assistance has been a major feature of cooperation in recent years, but there is a shift back to a development focus.
