9 October 2017, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met David Nabarro, Sustainable Development Facilitator and Former Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change.

The meeting took place at FAO headquarters in Rome on the sidelines of the 44th session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The CFS is based at FAO and is the top forum of the United Nations on food security policies.

One topic of discussion was the need to address the root causes of migration, such as conflict and food insecurity, to prevent distress migration.

“I’m really keen that we focus on the extent to which people are food secure and income secure and secondly, if they are not, that they are offered proper support either to move to a place where they can have a better life or be given social protection so they can stay put, and this is the right way to do it,” Dr Nabarro said.
