A meeting with Albania's Agriculture and Rural Development General Secretary

Diverse areas of FAO's technical assistance to the country discussed

17 May 2018, Voronezh, Russian FederationFAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met with Albania's Agriculture and Rural Development General Secretary Aurora Alimadhi.

They met on the margins of the 31st session of FAO’s Regional Conference for Europe, in Voronezh.

Graziano da Silva welcomed the formulation of a new Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2018-2021 that will guide future cooperation between Albania and FAO. The new framework agreement will focus, in particular, on increasing rural income through diversification of activities and capacity development provided to women and youth in agriculture and agro-tourism.

He reiterated FAO’s support to smallholders and for family farming, particularly in community development, land consolidation, as well as extension, training and value chain development.

He welcomed the cooperation undertaken to align Albania’s agriculture and rural development policy with European Union standards. He also confirmed FAO’s assistance to the Government in improving agricultural statistics and linking it with the Sustainable Development Goals monitoring and measurement process.

FAO’s chief also said FAO looked forward to strengthening collaboration with Albania’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on climate change and sustainable agriculture.
