FAO Director-General meets with Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture

Host country agreement will facilitate project clearances, implementation

17 May 2018, Voronezh, Russian FederationOn the margins of the 31st session of FAO’s Regional Conference for Europe, Jose Graziano da Silva today met with Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Armen Harutyunyan.

FAO’s chief reiterated the organization’s readiness to assist the Government in supporting its new strategy to support sustainable agriculture, nutrition and food security, particularly in the context of the 2030 Agenda. He praised the government of Armenia for placing agriculture high in the new national development agenda.

Minister Harutyunyan highly valued FAO for its impactful project activities in Armenia, including the ongoing dairy value chain project, the ongoing school food and nutrition programme, and the recent project on sustainable development of the fish production sector.

Graziano da Silva stressed the importance of joint efforts to mobilize the resources necessary for implementation of the Country Programming Framework, and suggested a specific focus on the replication of successful activities in grape and apricot production.
