FAO Director-General meets with Belarus Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food

Discussions at FAO's Regional Conference

17 May 2018, Voronezh, Russian FederationBelarus Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Alla Lomakina met with the Director-General here today, on the margins of the 31st session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe.

Graziano da Silva welcomed the good start made on implementation of the 2018-2020 Country Programming Framework (CPF) for Belarus, and confirmed FAO’s readiness to work jointly on the resource mobilization track in support of the CPF.

He expressed gratitude to Belarus for hosting the Second Annual Meeting of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia this coming September, and encouraged the country’s participation in other regional and global events in the future.

He also congratulated Belarus for excellent organization of the Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Leaders Forum in February 2018, which gathered senior executives responsible for coordinating national implementation of SDGs in Europe and Central Asia. The focus was on mainstreaming the 2030 Agenda into national policies and initiatives, multi-stakeholder partnerships and innovative solutions.

Graziano da Silva noted that FAO is ready to provide support on technical measures for ensuring effective institutional mechanisms for veterinary controls, supervision and standards that meet World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international requirements.

He also highlighted FAO’s readiness to provide support on technical measures aimed at strengthening national capacities for monitoring forest pest and diseases and developing integrated pest management plans.
