14 June 2013, Rome, Italy - FAO enjoys a key role in working with Iraq in overcoming developmental issues, Iraq’s Agriculture Minister, Izzeddin Abdullah H. Aldola, said today during a meeting with Director General. The Iraqi Minister is the current chair of the FAO Near East Regional Commission. He also underlined the excellent cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Regional Office and the FAO Headquarters and showed his satisfaction with the ongoing projects.

Amongst the several issues raised, the Director General and Izzeddin Abdullah H. Aldola discussed enhancing further technical cooperation, activities on water scarcity as well as the proposed program of work and budget. The Minister expressed the full support of his country to the proposed PWB. Graziano da Silva recognized the notable achievements and improvements witnessed in Iraq and reassured the minister that FAO stands ready to assist the country’s efforts in enhancing its agricultural sector and achieving food security.
