DG congratulates Azerbaijan for achieving World Food Summit target

20 June 2013, Rome, Italy – FAO Director-General JoséGraziano da Silva has congratulated Ismat Dursun ogly Abasov, Azerbaijan Minister for Agriculture and Food,for his country’s early achievement of the 1996 World Food Summit target of halving the number of people suffering from hunger.

Also discussed at a meeting yesterday were FAO technical assistance priorities in the 2013-2015 Country Programming Framework (CPF) and strengthening FAO’s presence in the country.

FAO is planning to organize a Stakeholder Workshop in Baku in September 2013.  The Minister stressed that his country is ready to share its experts and expertise with neighbouring countries The DG encouraged him to encourage young people from his country apply with FAO’s Young Professionals Programme.
